Challenging Monday...

I have seen Narwal used several times and always thought I'd have to try this cool tangle so this was the perfect opportunity...
Numerous pieces of paper later I finally started to get it down...
I really love this tangle just as much as I expected and I will absolutely need to play around with it more another time!

And then to the actual New To Me tile...
After Narwal I decided to go for two easy patterns. Swags and Rattia and were both easy looking enough that they didn't need practice. Both great patterns!
The two patterns were from this weeks featured artist Neil Burley.

This tangle took some work for me. I tried really hard to come up with variations but that was not easy at all... I tried shading it different ways and played with the corner circles...
Finally I added a splash of color to spice up the pattern...

But in the end I like the result - so it was time well spent!

It's great learning new patterns, but tomorrow I think I'll stick to tangles I know, that is after all a bit more relaxing! ;-)

A week of challenges...

Bunzo is new to me and I have to say I really like this pattern.

Artist Focus - Lily Popcheff
Rixty is an old favorite...
Riki-Tiki and Chechain by Lily Popcheff are both new to me and the latter is now a new favorite.

That's New to Me #25: "F"
Flora by Sandy Steen Bartholomew
Facets by Nancy Pinke
Both of these great tangles were new to me. I'm already a fan of Facets, it looks amazing when shaded...

Be sure to check out Suzy's new monotangle challenge "Tangle me 3". It airs today!

Diva's Weekly Tangle Challenge #222: "Colors of the Rainbow"
Riki Tiki by Renee King
Dust Bunny by Margaret Bremner
I do so enjoy tangling with color...

Inside my journal...
My journal has some extra pages, so I added some zendala dares...
Of course afterwards it occoured to me it would be wiser to remove extra pages as my journal is already mad thick and we're only half through the year...

I have been searching the net for a journal with a bigger spiral so it wont be as bulgy, but so far I'm coming up short...

Every Inchie Monday #25: Apple

A week with challenges...

This is a great pattern to draw.

It's been a while since I participated in this challenge. I find it very... Challenging... Which means it takes time.
This time I am familiar with both tangles so I gave it a shot...
Hopefully I cracked the code this time!

String #6, Jax, Jetties

Inside my sketchbook
I saw this on pinterest and had to try it... Lots of straight lines and no thinking, it's so relaxing...

When I was a kid, I loved playing fold-man. I still do. And so do my kids. We use small pieces of paper, move them around to see which combinations looks funny.

Ann, Allium, Alicat
Two new tangles under my belt this week as I already knew Ann.

Tangling rain in the sun...

It's summer today... Sunny and warm... Sleeveless blouse...
And a little tangling in the sun...
Tangling rain...

 That's New To Me #16: R-Tangles

Riveting, Riverstones, Roxi, Rain, Raindotty
The first two were new to me. I quite like both of them...

I am now up to round 30 on my Sofie's Universe.
This is so much fun and I am learning lots of new techniques and stitches.

One hundred days of creativity!

Hang on, I've got an entire week's work in pictures for you here!
Are you hanging? Good, let's go then...

Page 3 in my tangle sampler book is now done... Looking back I see that I posted about finishing page 2 on February 11th and this page contains about 65 tangles... It's roughly a new tangle a day...
That's pretty awesome! Go me! ;)

Cat-kin is a great tangle! It's simple and repetitive to draw and looks cool, I love it!
B'twined is one of many tangles I learned and only actually used once. But it's also a great tangle to draw, I will have to use it more.
(I wish I had made it bigger upwards, but that's for next time!)

I decided cat-kin was new enough to pass for a new to me tangle...

New tangle: Cat-kin
Inapod, eca-lin, lockar curls, ovolution, courant, enyshou, lilypads

It seems most of the participants in this challenge didn't care for the new theme... Only two submissions this week and not many last week either...
Go check it out, it's so much more fun when more people take part... :)

Owls, owls, owls...

I adopted Joey's cut-and-paste idea for my sketchbook...
My favorite things to draw is cats, owls doodle flowers... And I love to color in after, that is if I get the chance before the kids steals my drawings!
This time I got there in time... Perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon...

String: I drew one..
Quib and Quabog

I've seen some really cool tiles using Quib. It looks so fun to draw, so I had to try.
And it was a great tangle to draw. But I didn't really know what to do with it once I had the quib down...
There was no step-out to be found on Quabog, maybe it's one of the top-secret tangles!
Good thing it's so simple even I can figure it out...
When I had drawn Quabog it looked so messy... Then I filled it with black and it took the focus away from the Quib...
Colored pencils to the rescue!!
Now it looks sort of outer-spacey... And I like it!

We have now passed one hundred days of creativity over at Whimsy by Kelly's where we're going for 300 creative days in 2015...
Yay for us!

The magic of zen...

Usually these zendalas just practically draw themselves... But not this one... I gave up on it twice...

But I still had a template among the papers laying around my end of the table... And today those ovals in the center were suddenly telling what they wanted and... voila!
It happened again. It's like magic!

Uncorked by Adele Bruno
Ovolution, Kozy, Nymph
Lawn Yawn by Molossus

Laced by Mary Elizabeth Martin
Lotuspods and Lilypads by Margaret Bremner
Lawn Yawn by Molossus
Lockar Curls by Ninna

Laced I have used a few times before, the rest were all firsttimers...
I really love lilypads and lawn yawn. Both aren't much to look at until surrounded by black, but then they look so great!
I wish I had skipped the lotuspods, I just can't get them to look as I want...
The lockar curls are right up my ally, I just love those swirls.

Lining up the felines...

Cats in a line...
I saw something like this on pinterest a while back and today I was in a cat kinda mood...
So this came to mind (after falling into the dreaded pinterest cat-trap... Suddenly half an hour had gone by just looking at cat pictures going awwww...) and was put to paper...

This one I might just hang on the wall!
(I love cats!) (Like, really love them!)

Tangles used are Printemps, Beeline, X, A-Fog and... The last one slipped my mind...

Yesterday's creative work:

O-Tangles:
Orbs-La-Dee by Anneke Van Dam
Ohoho by Damy
Obad by Molly Bee
Octoleg by Damy
Okra by Kathy Redmond

My purple micron wanted to be picked up. And shading was done with pencil and purple pencil...

Breaking the Saturday Zen...

One of the most annoyingly zen-breaking things is when you mess up a pattern!
And I just did that... Big time... There's no saving it... It's either a doover, a finish and deal or a trash...

This was for Joey's weekly tangle challenge of using pattern Rose in a sphere...
This was going pretty well... Then... :(

I did however managed to finish a couple of things today without messing up...

My son is going to a birthday party tomorrow and I made this little card for the present he's bringing.

Another card. This one for my boss' 40 year anniversary.
40 years, isn't that amazing?

Yesterday I finished a tile for...

New to me B-tangles:
Balo by Hsin-Ya Hsu, Beadlines by Margaret Bremner, Binial by Cindy Angel
Btwined by Pegi Schargel and Borbz by Rita N.
Also two non-B tangles; Footlites and Vano.

Beadlines is a new favorite of mine. I have a strong feeling it will be used a lot!
Balo is so very beautiful, but I can't seem to get it as pretty the creator. Practice, practice...
Btwined is so great with blacked holes. I just made it too small... More practice...

Tangling for me!

This just happens to be my initial... And would you know it, there is actually a tangle with my name!
Now how could I not use that!?

Ann by Adele Bruno... And it's a butterfly, which I love...
Truth be told, it felt more like drawing than tangling... But I still do love this doodly tangle!

String:
I drew a border with a little loop and just two lines...
"A" Tangles:

These tangles were all new to me. I really love all of them. Especially A-Fog (the middle one) is so great to draw and looks amazing.

S for Star Map...

 "S"
String #9
Star Map - Sooflowers - Inapod - Wud - Isochor - Wavy Border

Usually I use only tangles starting with the letter of the week, like an extra little challenge. However nothing really turned out right when practicing some new S tangles.
So after a while I just decided to forget about it and get tangling.
And then I needed something linear against all those soft swirly lines and Star Map was right there looking perfect and so easy I did not even need to look up the step-out!

I guess it all works out once you stop thinking too much and just draw...

Finding my zen...

Today I found my zen...
Yesterday it was no where to be found, but now it's back... My sweet, sweet zen...
Maybe it's more how you feel or maybe how your surroundings are at the time of drawing... Or both...
It seems my two kids always either love each other and are BFF or they want to kill each other - there's no middleground... Yesterday was the latter... Phew...

However, today the kids were playing and laughing. They were loud and running around... But that is just how it is... Background noise. But happy noise...
The noise that lets you relax and find that zen...

I have been learning W tangles today... There were not a single one in my tangle sampler book (not on either one of my two whole pages! ;)
So my afternoon was gone in the blink of an eye while playing around with ten new tangle patterns...

The outcome was this tile for SuzyMosh's That's new to me challenge #6: W:

Tangles used: Wirly Bird, Wist, Wavy Border, Wired

Four of the new patterns I learned came in to use. All though I really like all the new.

My favorite is Wirly Bird - really fun to draw, I want to play around with that one more, there's so may ways to go with it - but all these tangles will for sure flow from my pen again...

Tangeling Mmm...

That's new to me challenge #5...
This week's letter is M.

There is quite a few M tangles to choose from.
I played around with 6 new tangles yesterday and picked 3 for today's tile:

I really like all 3 of them, but mostly Mi2... That's a great one to draw...

For "U" and me...

#whimsybykelly2015 day 28
that's new to me #4

The letter of the week over at SuzyMosh's That's new to me challenge is "U"...
There's not a lot of U-tangles... But the ones that are there are pretty...

I used almost all of the U tangles, they were all new to me...

Uni, Unyun (love that one!), Undling and Unme...  See all U tangles here...

Well worth the wait...

#whimsybykelly2015 day 23
it's a string thing
That's new to me

Apple Pie
- The worlds quickest and easiest pie... Ever...
180 celcius - 30 min

100 g butter
125 g sugar
100 g flour
1 tsp bakingpowder
1 egg

While melting the butter mix everything in a bowl. Mix in the butter.
Pour the batter into a pie pan.
Now fill it with whatever your kitchen holds of tasty stuff... Berries, fruit, chocolate, nuts... Just go nuts...

The batter will rise so there's no need to push the filling down, just lay it on top of the batter. Into the oven it goes and watch the tasty magic happen...

Today I added a little coconut flour and chopped almonds to the batter. Not the last time!

Now while your mouth is watering for all of 30 min waiting for pie you could do like I did and... Tangle of course!

"This is new to me" Challenge #3
Letter of the week: "V"
My chosen tangle: Vigne
My chosen string: #4

"It's a string thing" #76
String of the week: #84

"That's new to me" #2
"Tackle it tuesday"
"Every inchie monday"

So I fell upon this amazing Poke root monotangle for diva's 200th made by Jamie while poking around (just had to...) instagram...
Poke root - which I never liked... Because I could never get it right...
But the way Jamie drew it just made me want to do that too!

And can you believe it - I just fell in love... Now I just want to draw more poke root...
I love drawing it this way... It has a hollibaugh feel to it... Which I also love!
Can you feel the love?
Are you rooting for me... ?
(Okay, all done...)

Every monday inchie...

That's new to me "C" & Tackle it tuesday "C-A-R-S"...

String #2
C: Chainlette - New to me...
A: Amaze

That's new to me...

#whimsybykelly2015 day 18
That's new to me #1

The "That's new to me!" weekly challenge is new to me...
I love learning new patterns, great idea for a challenge...

I surfed right over to tanglepatterns and found a new to me tangle starting with the letter T, which is this weeks promt...

Tearce is what I fell for and I really like it...
Also sneeked in my favorite, which coincidently also is a T tangle; tipple...
I tried really hard to make a light and airy tile as I always seem to fill every empty space... I think I succeded...

And in the spirit of using my good stuff... I used an official zentangle tile...
I love them, but my budget says no to US airmailing prices... :|
